Description

Calling All SLPs! Target Describing Steps in a Sequence and Asking and Answering Questions. This resource is perfect for your entire individual and group sessions. It introduces language targets in a meaningful manner and teaches concepts in context, not in isolation. All activities are related to a specific summer topic: ice cream sundaes. | Speech and Language Therapy for Individual and Group Sessions | Sequences | Listening and Understanding

The packet includes:

  • How to Make an Ice Cream Sundae booklet: review the steps needed to build a delicious frozen treat. The booklet has simple text with clear pictures to facilitate understanding and information recall.

  • Sequencing cards: use the picture cards to target the following goals:
  • Using sequencing words: first, next, then, after, and finally
  • Practicing topic-related vocabulary (e.g., drizzle, scoop)
  • Orally sequencing up to 6 events, with visual cues

Have the students put the pictures in order and retell the steps in the sequence, with initial modelling.

  • Build Your Own Sundae activity: Use this engaging activity to help the students consolidate learning. The students follow a checklist to build their own pretend ice cream sundae. They also get to make choices regarding their preferred toppings and ice cream flavours.

  • Ice cream survey: Pair up the students and have them complete the Ice Cream Flavour survey for themselves and a friend. Help students compare and contrast their preferences.

With the survey, the students will practice stating the ice cream flavours they like and those flavours they do not like. The students will also practice asking others about their choices.
