Description

Constructive Triangle Extension Cards provide fun extension activities to the sensorial presentations and lessons and reinforce geometry concepts. This is a set of 10 cards to use with the rectangular box of colored triangles, featuring photographic images of the materials in color to guide the comparing the lengths of the sides of the triangles and the formed shapes. The cards are provided for you in PDF format.

This set includes 10 command or activity cards numbered for easy reference and organization, a card listing the questions and commands, control off error on the reverse of the card, and a divider tab to organize your cards.

Use these cards for your child or student to:

  • improve concentration, coordination, independence, and problem solving skills
  • develop visual discrimination
  • match solid objects with plane (2D) figures to assist the move from concrete to abstract
  • name the triangles constructed by the sticks.
  • develop the logical mathematical mind.
  • give the child practical experience in plane geometry.

To make the cards:

  1. Print on cardstock
  2. Cut them along the horizontal and fold along the vertical to make double-sided cards (so the control of error is one the back of the card)
  3. Laminate (optional)
  4. Hole-punch and put a ring around them for easy handling and storage (optional)

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Distinguish between defining attributes (e.g., triangles are closed and three-sided) versus non-defining attributes (e.g., color, orientation, overall size); build and draw shapes to possess defining attributes.
Compose two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, squares, trapezoids, triangles, half-circles, and quarter-circles) or three-dimensional shapes (cubes, right rectangular prisms, right circular cones, and right circular cylinders) to create a composite shape, and compose new shapes from the composite shape.
Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes, such as a given number of angles or a given number of equal faces. Identify triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and cubes.
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
Draw points, lines, line segments, rays, angles (right, acute, obtuse), and perpendicular and parallel lines. Identify these in two-dimensional figures.
