Description
This activity is a 5-Act, 25-role reader's theater for the Cold War! This in-depth, historically-accurate resource is great for teaching students about the Cold War, including causes, effects, and important events.
Reader's Theater is an engaging instructional strategy for students that allows them to act out various historical scenes. This resource also helps build fluency and reading comprehension skills.
The acts are as follows:
Act I: Containing Communism (Marshall Plan/ Berlin Airlift)
Act II: Conflict in Asia (Korean War/ Vietnam War)
Act III: Issues with Cuba (Bay of Pigs Invasion/ Cuban Missile Crisis)
At IV: The Space Race (Sputnik/ Apollo 11)
Act V: The Fall of the Soviets (Mikhail Gorbachev/ Ronald Raegan)
Each act includes discussion questions. There is a quiz for students at the conclusion of the play, as well as an extension activity in which students will create their own script through research for the U-2 Incident.
Answer key is provided for the quiz.
