Ideas for Use
I use these cards and control / anchor charts when introducing a new coin. The cards and charts reinforce prior knowledge of coin values and show how the new coin value relates to mastered coin values.
After introducing a new coin, I move on to Money on the Hundred Board, which allows a student to easily see the value of coins and bills in relation to 100 (pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and dollars) Kids can place real coins on the hundred board to begin skip counting money. This can be a very impactful work for children having difficulty counting money. Check it out here!
After introducing all the coins and a dollar bill, the students are ready to complete the Coin Set Equivalency worksheet. This ties up all the coin equivalency concepts and offers kids an opportunity to show mastery.
