Description
This no-prep American Civil War activity will help your students understand the differences between the North and the South...using data! If you need an activity to kick-off your Civil War unit or want a resource that highlights the differences between the North and the South, this is the resource for you!
In this engaging activity, students receive a blank chart with many categories of data about the Civil War. Some of these categories include the population, the number of factories, and total land area, among other data points. Students are also provided with a word bank of the different data points that they must match up in the correct category. Whether you use the printable or digital version of the resource, students then must use inquiry skills to predict which data points match up with the North and which ones match up with the South. To make this more fun, you can make it a competition and provide prizes to the students who can figure out the correct answers first! After students have had a chance to work through the activity, you can then go over the answers with them using the answer key, followed by the discussion questions.
This resource includes the following components:
- Teacher Guide (PDF)
- North Vs. South Activity Sheet (with corresponding data points)
- Discussion Questions Handout
- Editable Google Doc Version of the Activity Sheet and Discussion Questions
- Answer Key
