Was a little difficult for some of my students as I used this for second grade, but we worked together on it and they loved getting to learn about cinco de mayo.

Cinco De Mayo: Passage and Questions - This pack includes a short close reading passage to help students better understand the holiday of Cinco De Mayo, the 5th of May.

This passage discusses how Cinco De Mayo began, why it is celebrated, mentions where it is popular, how people celebrate it, how it is commercialized... among a few other bits of fun information.

IMPORTANT---- I offer the same passage in two different formats. This particular product is a one page passage with about 6 text-based questions that go along with the passage.

The other format is for interactive notebooks. It is the same passage and similar questions just formatted differently. If you would like to view the interactive notebook version, click HERE. You can then read the description to see which format works best for you.

This passage was written with 4th graders in mind, but it can be used with more advanced third graders or weaker fifth grade readers. Please use your best judgement.

What's included?

This pack includes a one page reading passage that should help students better understand some fun facts dealing with Cinco De Mayo.

In addition to the passage, there are about 11 questions. One is on the definition of commemorate, one focuses on the term 'heritage', and the others focuses on comprehension questions related to the text.

An answer key is also provided.
