Description

Spice up your Valentine's Day party and keep your 2nd graders engaged with a fun math activity as they try to recover the stolen heart candy from the Valentine's Villain. This digital escape room runs on Boom Learning℠ , so there are no clues to hide and it is completely self-checking. Your students will use their knowledge of place value within 1,000 to compare numbers and unlock secret passages, add and subtract within 100 to turn off an alarm, review addition and subtraction fact fluency to open a vault, and much more. Escape rooms are a great way to review skills, encourage cooperative learning, and get students excited about practicing standards. If you are looking for a fun Valentine's Day math worksheet alternative, them give this online breakout a try! *A Google Forms™ version of this activity is also available for those who do not use Boom Cards.

To use Boom Cards, you must be connected to the Internet. Boom Cards play on modern browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge). Apps are available for modern Android, iPads, iPhones, and Kindle Fires. For security and privacy, adults must have a Boom Learning account to use and assign Boom Cards. You will be able to assign the Boom Cards you are buying with “Fast Pins,” (a form of play that gives instant feedback to students for self-grading Boom Cards). For assignment options that report student progress back to you, you will need to purchase a premium account. If you are new to Boom Learning, you will be offered a free trial of our premium account. Read here for details: http://bit.ly/BoomTrial.

Most of the cards in this Boom deck include audio which reads the clues aloud. Some of the puzzles also go to "hint" pages if a student answers incorrectly the first time. The cards will require students to drag and drop items, type in answers, and choose multiple choice answers.
