This mega bundle includes 14 resources that were created to integrate the history and culture of Black Canadians into the curriculum. As a primary teacher, the month of February is so jam-packed with celebrations to recognize. There’s no need to restrict activities or discussions related to Black History to February! Celebrate Black History with a scavenger hunt, directed drawing, estimation game, making words activity, music listening activity, dances, movement activities, and book suggestions!
Picture Book Responses - includes Google Slides version
Share these great read alouds at any time of the year. Many of the picture books were written by Canadian authors or feature Canadian settings and characters. I’ve included some popular picture books about African Americans and some of my favourite fables and folktales.
Posters with Quotes, Quote Journal
Create a display with these posters featuring quotes from black Canadian and American leaders (plus Nelson Mandela, of course!). Use this as a springboard to learn more about these great people and their accomplishments! For higher grades or students, I've also included a journal booklet for children to respond to each quote.
S.T.E.A.M. Challenges - includes Google Slides version
These STEAM (or STEM) Challenges feature reading passages about black Canadian figures. The tasks will work in a library or classroom Makerspace. There is no set material list so put out whatever you have available and let your students get to work!

An engaging activity that incorporates reading comprehension while students move about the classroom. Students will read passages about historic Black communities in Canada, look for answers to the questions, and unscramble a final word to complete the task.
