Description

Would any of your students make a good President? With this persuasive writing resource, students will read two nonfiction articles that both discuss some of the most important jobs that a President has; then, they will complete a graphic organizer that helps them plot out their 3-paragraph opinion essay. Once you've read over their drafts, give them the cute patriotic-themed stationery to write their final copy on, and grade them using the included rubric. This is a great resource to use around President's Day, Election Day, or whenever you study government!

This resource provides everything you need for President-themed persuasive writing in the classroom, library, homeschool, drama club, or beyond!

This ENGAGING product includes:

  1. Text 1: A magazine article about 4 jobs that a President has.
  2. Text 2: A magazine article specifically about the different groups of people that a President has to talk to.
  3. Writing Prompt & Tips: Explains the prompt and offers tips to help students do their best writing.
  4. Opinion Essay Poster: A handy reference sheet for students to put in their writing notebook or binder.
  5. Graphic Organizer: ORE-RE-REO style to help students write 3-paragraph opinion essays.
  6. Exemplar: I wrote a model essay with the opinion that cats make the best pets. Show it to students to give them an idea of what you expect. However, there are at least 3 reasons in the texts that support each of the pets.
  7. Stationery: Black-and-write stars border with patriotic heart graphic.
  8. Rubric: Based on 100 total points and aligned with Common Core / TNReady Standards.

Why buy writing resources from ink & us?

In the past, I have taught the 6-trait writing curriculum, Lucy Calkins Writing Workshop, and the SRSD model. I enjoyed using all of them, but my students still needed more explicit/direct writing instruction, specifically so they could write on-demand for standardized writing prompts. If this fits you - and this sounds like the support your students need - I hope you will try out my resources!
