Integrate science into the first days of school with this back to school activity that loosely incorporates the periodic table of elements with print and digital templates. Students will use the template to illustrate and write details about their preferences, personal likes, and dislikes, allowing you to get to know them and build a classroom community while connecting to science and the periodic table.
⭐️⭐⭐️⭐️⭐️ "I LOVED this resource. I used this as a Back to School activity in September. Each one was different in the end, and it allowed me to get to know my students... one of my students has 3 Newfoundland dogs:) My students also learned a bit about me since I created one as a model. It also allowed my students to learn a bit about elements on the periodic table, as they were prompted to add different components like a one or two letter symbol, atomic mass number... and their characteristics. These hung in the hallway outside my room- arranged as a periodic table- for most of the year... an awesome resource that I will use again and again." - Annemarie, 6th and 8th grade teacher

Teacher feedback:
- I started teaching in the middle of the year. It was a great get to know you and review what the students had learned about the periodic table. It was successful for both online and in-person students.
- This resource was used for my special education science students. The students were engaged throughout the entire lesson. This activity took no time at all to get started, which is one of the things I loved about it. This was an excellent morning work and week before break activity that was very impactful in every way. It proved very handy at a moment's notice.
- Great to use on the cover of their science notebooks and get to know them.
- My students enjoyed this get to know you activity because it was a little different than your normal one! I printed them on card stock and am hanging them on my bulletin board and in the hallway to liven things up a bit! I also loved the step by step direction.
- I used this activity on the first days of school as a get to know you activity. The kids loved that it mirrored the element box on the periodic table. The kids loved sharing their finished products with the class—incredible decorations for the classroom for Open House.
