Description
Author's Purpose: Here's a hands-on way to interact with the PIE acronym as it relates to author's purpose! Students write a definition for persuade, inform, and entertain. Then, they read three passages and use clues from the text to identify the author's purpose. The finished product makes a creative bulletin board or school hallway display!
Author's purpose PIE refers to...
✅ Persuade
✅ Inform
✅ Entertain
Students color their pie and crust, cut it out, and glue it together. They write definitions for persuade, entertain, and inform. Then they read the passage on three of the pie slices, and label the author's purpose for writing each passage. Student-friendly directions with visual supports are included!
I have used this version with my 2nd and 3rd grade students. (I take it a step further and use the PIE'ED version {CLICK HERE.} with my 4th and 5th grade students, adding "explain" and "describe".) ALL grade levels have thoroughly enjoyed this activity!
