Archaeology: Hands-On and Integrated Learning BUNDLE

This CROSS CURRICULAR, HANDS-ON, REAL-WORLD unit of study gives you everything you need. Your students will love the ARCHAEOLOGY VOCABULARY Activities, the simulated ARCHAEOLOGY DIG Project and the hands-on ARCHAEOLOGY/ARTIFACT SCIENCE INVESTIGATION. Lots of PLANNING, PROBLEM SOLVING, CRITICAL THINKING, RESEARCHING, and more included as they become archaeologists and feel like detectives solving a mystery. Students utilize math with MEASUREMENT, AREA, and PERIMETER. They will be asked to read non-fiction informational texts and write about their experience as well as ORGANIZE RESEARCH. Students PLAN, CREATE, ANALYZE, come up with THEORIES, and ask QUESTIONS. Choices for COMMUNICATING and SHARING their project are included. A two part RUBRIC asks students to REFLECT on their participation and work. Illustrated lesson plans, suggestions, and instructions are mainly for an outdoor project, but indoor directions are included. This is a terrific project for groups to learn COOPERATION and COLLABORATION.

The WORD WALL offers activities for critical thinking, categorizing, discussion, and game ideas. There are 4 different types of assessments for you to choose from and for differentiation. Two of the assessments have 24 questions and include either context clues, or finding the definition. An extended response assessment allows you to decide how many of the words you want your students to use when writing about a day in the life of an archaeologist. There is also an assessment that uses just the basic archaeology words.

The inquiry-based investigation uses the scientific method and gives you the choice of an Open-Ended learning experience for your students or a more Teacher Directed one. There’s lots of critical thinking, analysis, classifying, and reflective opportunities as well as suggestions for further investigations. Students review Archaeology and then delve into wondering which artifacts might be preserved over time and which might decay. Preliminary activities then prepare them for a successful inquiry.
