These passages are great to use with my third graders to practice reading skills during independent centers.
My students loved these passages. The questions were varied types which is great when learning how to comprehend a passage. I highly recommend.

CAREFULLY CRAFTED CLOSE READING COMPREHENSION PASSAGES AND ACTIVITIES

Each close reading comprehension passage falls within the Lexile level of 450-790, which is the standard expectation for 2nd-3rd grade. The Lexile level is marked at the top of each passage. There are a variety of literature text types including poetry, narratives, and plays. The informational text types range between STEM topics, science, history, and opinion pieces. The formats include website simulations, magazine articles, and texts with multiple diagrams. In terms of interest level, EVERY passage is written with a 3rd grader in mind.

WHAT STANDARDS ARE THESE CLOSE READING COMPREHENSION ACTIVITIES ALIGNED TO?

This product is most closely aligned to the Common Core standards. However, everything is referenced as “learning targets” so that it is applicable within any 3rd grade classroom. There are two options in this download. You can choose to either use a version where the passages and activities make references to Common Core or a version that does NOT make references to Common Core. The content is the same in both sets of passages and activities, but this option gives Common Core schools a specific reference to the corresponding standard, which may be helpful.

WHAT CAN THESE CLOSE READING COMPREHENSION PASSAGES BE USED FOR?

These close reading comprehension passages and activities are perfect for teaching reading comprehension skills, reading assessments, guided reading groups, or reading comprehension homework. Your students must refer to the text and provide textual evidence of their understanding and comprehension of the passages.

    TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "If you are on the fence about buying this product or the bundle of Literature + Informational close reading passages, DO IT! The informational reading passages by Teaching and Tapas was the most used product in my classroom last year by far, and I am ecstatic that I can use the literature reading passages as well this year. It's like Christmas came early. Every reading comprehension product I have bought from Teaching and Tapas is always top quality and can be used over and over again in the classroom. Thank you for such AWESOME products!"-Lindsay M.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "A 3rd grade teacher's dream come true - literally. Amazing text, LOVE the step by step piece by piece directions (for example, go back in the text and color this answer green, this one purple, etc) Perfect for my kids who need that extra push to follow directions and absolutely aligns with CC in terms of having students PROVE their answers with evidence directly from the text! Thank you, thank you, thank you!" - MsP 3B Busy Bees

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ "These reading comprehension passages and activities are AMAZING! Talk about interesting and engaging! WOW! This will make my year soooo much easier, and the kids will love the interaction with highlighters! SUCH a great deal for the price!" -Amanda M.

    NOTE:

The Common Core standards consider 2nd and 3rd grade level texts within the same Lexile level band of 450-790. That means I use many (about 85%) of the same texts in both the 2nd and 3rd grade reading passages. I only modify the reading passages slightly for text complexity and to better match the specific grade level standards. However, you will see that the questions and activities on each of these grade level products are completely different and aligned to that grade level’s standards.
