Organized Paragraph Writing for Struggling Writers
I use this with my students with learning disabilities to help them write organized paragraphs. Often they are simply asked to write and don't know how to start or what to include. It keeps them on track and prevents them from rambling or adding unnecessary details.

On Demand Writing Peer Conferences
This document allows student to use the Rally Coach Kagan structure to conduct peer conferences using each aspect of the on demand writing rubric.
Copy each set and gives cards to students. Place students into groups. One at a time a student reads a peer's writing and chooses a card to give comments about the particular part of the rubric. With this instructional strategy, students are learning from their peer's writing and it turn learning the essential parts of the writing rubric

Persuasive Writing, "Wreck Stereotypes"
Stereotyping and bullying have become a major problem in our society. I have taken a creative approach in dealing with this by integrating the topic into a creative writing assignment that satisfies the common core standard of argumentative/persuasive writing. Included is a fun "Wreck it Ralph" writing paper for final drafts.
-Students can start the lesson off by watching the movie trailer of "Wreck it Ralph" on you tube and discuss the dilemmas at hand.

This packet includes a brainstorm web for developing writing ideas, an organizer for placing sentences in a logical sequence and a paragraph outline to structure the paragraphs, revise them and edit them. It also includes a lined final copy sheet with a rubric.

This is the Writing Process that I use in my classroom. It includes Brainstorm, Rough Draft, Self Edit, Peer Edit, Teacher Edit, and Publish.
I am posting it in Publisher so it is editable.
I use little cups below each section and have the students move their popsicle stick to the part they are on at the end of the writing block.

Argumentative Paragraph Graphic Organizer- INTRODUCTION ONLY!

MEL-Con Writing Graphic Organizer Black and White Publisher File - 2 versions
Based on the MEL-Con graphic organizer designed by Jim Schiferl, this MEL-Con has been cleaned up to create more writing space for students, include a writing prompt box, and eliminate the color-coded boxes so that it can be readable after duplicated. The Writing Process Clipchart (Publisher)
I print these on card stock, laminate, and then attach them together with rings. This is the Publisher version that can be edited. I use numbered clothespins for my students to represent where they are at on the chart. The steps are: Pre-write, Draft, Authors Circle, Revise, Edit, Chief Edit, and Publish. There are notes for each step on each page. This document is editable so you can change the notes to fit to your class.

Transisiton Sentence Bridge-Narrative
I was having a great deal of difficulty teaching my kids how to use transitions to craft their writing. After giving a lot of thought., I came up with a way for them to practice using the transitions and help them learn revise/edit strategies for the STAAR test at the same time. They enjoyed doing this and I saw some lightbulbs go off after we did it a few times.

Persuasive Strategies FRIES exercise
This half sheet exercise challenges students to find the persuasive strategies used in a persuasive paragraph (FRIES: Facts, Reasons, Illustrations, Examples, and Statistics) and underline them in different colors. Then, students are challenged to write their own persuasive paragraph using FRIES. This activity was originally used in 7th grade language arts to review persuasive stratigies, but would be great for any middle grades class learning persuasive stratigies.
