TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a classroom teacher for 18 years. I feel blessed to have taught 3rd graders for 15 years, and most recently fifth grade. I am certified to teach children in grades K-6, and I am also a certified Reading Specialist for grades K-12. Both certifications are for the great state of Connecticut.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love challenging children so they can see how special they are! Activities that I create infuse reading, writing and critical thinking activities. Working in a HOTS school (higher order thinking) has trained me well to always have higher-level concepts in the work I present to my students. By consistently setting high expectations, my students believe they can, and then do! Students who are a part of my classroom can expect to work cooperatively in groups, collaboratively in partnerships, and be prepared to work hard. Of course we have lots of giggles along the way!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Highly Qualified Teacher Status and Certified Mentor Teacher

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

In addition to having a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and American Studies from Western Connecticut University, I hold two Master's level degrees. One is in Educational Technology from Fairfield University, and the other is in Reading Intervention from Sacred Heart University. Additionally, I am currently working towards becoming a Dyslexia Specialist.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Besides being an enthusiastic elementary school teacher, I have two wonderful children who love to keep me on my toes. Together with my husband, the four of us enjoy going to the beach every minute we get! Comments or Questions?
