What educators are saying

This was very helpful. This was my first time having students teach the class. The rubric, checklist and slideshow helped guide them through the process. I liked that the students were able to grade themselves and reflect as well.
Love love love this resource! I want to incorporate it into more of my classes. It is interesting to see what students come up with when given the freedom! They were able to teach their peers something they are interested in!

Purpose:

  • The purpose is to allow students to practice CCSS speaking and listening skills, and get experience with long-term planning skills.

How to:

  • Print and share the Student Packet with students.
  • Follow this PowerPoint starting on Slide 4. As students finish each day’s assignment, conference with them one-on-one. Once approved, have them continue working on the next page or section.

Anticipated Length:

  • In my class, we work on these projects for 60-75 minutes per day. The planning and presentations take approximately 8-10 days (depending on number of students in the class). You can shorten the length of presentations or have students work with partners/ groups to shorten the time it will take.

Subject and Grade Level:

  • I have successfully used this with 5th-8th graders.
  • This could work in any class that does research and presentations including Social Studies, ELA, Science, etc. It is a great way to incorporate CCSS Speaking/Listening Skills in an engaging way.
