Wonders 2023 2020 - 2nd Grade Unit 3: Week 3 and 4 Mr. Putter & Tabby Supplement

This Wonders Grade 2 supplemental pack is created to supplement Unit 3, Weeks 3 and 4 (Mr. Putter and Tabby See the Stars). The reading responses, activities, and interactive notebook pages focus on the Literature Anthology (Main and Paired Selection), Vocabulary, and Spelling sections of the curriculum. Complete answer keys are included.

ONLINE LEARNING: This Wonders pack now includes GOOGLE slides for online learning, compatible with GOOGLE Classroom. The link to the remote learning pages are on the second page of the resource. The Slides look like the printable pages, but with text boxes already inserted. (The interactive notebook pages are not available as Google Slides, as they require students to color, cut, and paste.)

PAPER & PENCIL LEARNING: This Wonders pack was originally designed as paper and pencil practice pages and interactive notebook pages. It can still be printed and used in this way!

These pages were designed to be engaging to students, yet rigorous. The fonts are interesting but easy to read, interactive notebook pages are included, and students are given opportunities to color and cut & paste. Students must have access to the text as they work, as many pages require text evidence.

Students love these interactive pages! Don't worry if you do not use Interactive Notebooks in your classroom. The interactive pages in this lesson can be glued onto notebook paper or construction paper. You can even staple a "notebook" of lined paper for them to use with their Wonders lessons! They'll love this new way of demonstrating their learning.

Anthology/Literature supplements:

• Reread - Students reread the story and answer the text-dependent questions.
• Character Perspective - Students write about the perspectives of Mr. Putter and Mrs. Teaberry.
• Sequence of Events - Students write the most important story events in the order in which they occurred.
• Sequence of Events: Complete the Sentences - Students complete the sentences using information from the story. When done, the events will be in the correct order.
• Numbering the Sequence of Events - Students number the story events into the correct sequence.
• Main Selection Text Questions - Students must have access to the text to complete the text-dependent questions.
• Paired Selection Text Questions - Students use evidence from the text to write 2 supporting details for each main idea.
• Essential Question – Students journal write about the story’s essential question.

Vocabulary & Differentiated Spelling Supplements:

• Vocabulary Word Wall Words – The 8 vocabulary words are available to be used on a word wall.
• Vocabulary - Students define each vocabulary word and use it in a sentence.
• Using Context Clues - Students complete the sentences with the correct vocabulary words using context clues.
• Vocabulary: Definitions - Students match each vocabulary word to its definition.
• Vocabulary: Identifying Compound Words - Students color the star next to each example of a compound word.
• Vocabulary: Making Compound Words - Students cut and paste smaller words to create compound words.
• Weeks 3 & 4 Spelling Lists - Three spelling lists are available, differentiated like in the curriculum (Approaching, On Level, and Beyond.) The levels are represented with a shape in the corner of the page so students are less aware of the level. There are 3 lists per page for students to cut and use with their spelling assignments.
• Weeks 3 & 4 Spelling: 3 Times Each - Students write the words three times each.
• Weeks 3 & 4 Spelling: Sort - Students sort spelling words based on their spelling.
• Week 3 Spelling: Sentences - Students write the spelling words in sentences that show they understand the meaning of the words.
• Week 4 Spelling: Vowels and Consonants - Students use two colors to write the spelling words. One color is for consonants and one color is for vowels.
• Weeks 3 & 4: High Frequency Word Wall Words - The 10 high frequency words are available to be cut and hung for use on a Word Wall.
