What educators are saying

I love these because they are fun and engaging. I use them most to reinforce objectives that they have already learn. They are easy to prepare and great for center time.

Description

Easily differentiate your counting & numbers 1-20 practice with fun winter-themed activities that are sure to keep your students engaged!

You will have a variety of resources to use throughout the season that will build a love for math while teaching core standards and will keep students interested in learning!

You receive the following activities for numbers 1-20 (please see the preview file for examples of each):

  1. Winter Write / Count the Room Activity

This activity gets your students up and moving around the room. They visit each card, count the objects, and record their answers on their pages.

There are 2 sets of cards – a blue-bordered set for numbers 1-10 and a purple-bordered set for numbers 11-20 for easy differentiation.

Each set has cute winter pictures that students love to count!

You also receive 2 differentiated sets of answer pages. Students circle the correct number from 3 given numbers OR students write the correct number.

The perfect activity for before or after Christmas break or during the winter when students have extra excitable energy!
  2. Two Sets of Differentiated Winter Play Dough / Center Mats

These fun mats not only build number sense but fine motor skills as well!

Two sets of winter play dough mats are included for numbers 1-20.

The first set shows students how many snowballs to give the snowman.

The second set does NOT show students how many snowballs to give to the snowman.

Each mat has the number, number word, a ten frame, and a place for students to represent the number by putting the correct number of snowballs or snowflakes above the snowman.

Can be used with play dough, pom-poms, mini-erasers, bingo daubers, or dry-erase markers.
  3. Center or Small Group Activity

This fun, hands-on winter-themed center or small group activity gives students practice with counting, one-to-one correspondence, representing a number with objects, number recognition, number order, and comparing numbers. It also helps with fine motor skills!

Easy setup! Simply print the strips, cut apart, and place them in a center with manipulatives of your choice such as mini-erasers, mini-marshmallows, pom-poms, counters, beads, play dough, etc.

Easily differentiate the center by choosing different number strips. Choose numbers that students need to practice.

You can also choose to have students compare amounts from different strips. Ask them which has more or less. Have them arrange the strips in order from the smallest number to the largest.
  4. Printable Winter Counting Pages

Printable versions of both the center activity and the count the room activity are included for individual assessment or practice in color and black/white.
  5. Writing Numbers to 20 Differentiated Pages

These pages help students learn to write numbers 1-20.

There are 2 differentiated options from which to choose in both color and black & white.

Option 1 has large numbers that show students how to form the numbers. Students trace the numbers and then write numbers on their own. Perfect for students who are learning how to properly write numbers.

Option 2 has numbers within 3 lines. Students trace the numbers and then write numbers on their own within the 3 lines.
  6. Answer Keys

Answer keys are provided for the write-the-room activity and the printable pages.

Perfect for whole and small group instruction, math centers, morning work, or individual practice.

Have engaging practice to help all your students master the following common core math standards:

  • K.CC.3. Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).
  • K.CC.4. Understand the relationship between numbers and quantities; connect counting to cardinality.
  • K.CC.5. Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1–20, count out that many objects.
  • K.CC.6. Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies.
