Westward Expansion Project Bundle - This bundle includes three fun and engaging projects about Westward Expansion. Students will gain valuable researching skills while also developing their presentation, writing, reading comprehension, and interpersonal skills.

ABC’s of Moving West– This creative project asks students to work in groups to create an ABC book about the Oregon Trail and Westward Expansion. Learners will identify several important and meaningful words associated with their assigned letter from their research, write a well-written paragraph that accurately uses their chosen words in context, and then draw an illustration that relates to one or more of their chosen words. In the end, students will present their completed books to the class to show their understanding of this amazing period of US history. This project is a great opportunity to meet Common Core Standards across multiple content areas.

Moving West Wagon - Westward Expansion – This original and hands-on project is a wonderful opportunity for students to show their understanding of pioneers moving west. Learners will create a covered wagon out of construction paper, cardboard, and a shoebox.

The bonnet of the wagon will include:

• A map of the Oregon or California Trail

• A model of a labeled wagon

• A list of chores on the trail

• A list of entertainment on the trail

• Pictures and captions of 4 major landmarks

In addition, learners will draw and cutout models of items pioneers brought with them to travel west.

Westward Expansion Culminating Project– This culminating project can be used with any study of the Westward Expansion Movement. This is an easy and effective way to differentiate to meet the needs for ALL students in your class. (especially gifted and talented learners). Students are asked to choose one out of eight possible project choices about Westward Epansion. Each project requires students to do research using online and print sources, take notes using the provided graphic organizers, and create a well-made project. Students even have the choice of designing their own projects with the approval of their teachers by completing the project proposal.
