Wedge Boats - STEM Engineering Challenge - Simple Machines

What teacher doesn't love to use themes in the classroom?

As a STEM coordinator, I am always looking for creative ways for teachers to integrate STEM engineering and design challenges into their classroom activities. I decided to work on creating STEM Engineering Challenge Packs for some themes.

This STEM Challenge Activity is focused on the Wedge!

Can your group create a puff boat that will travel the farthest distance on five puffs of air and that has a wedge somewhere in its design?

Materials: (per group)

-Empty milk cartons (from school lunch)

-Aluminum foil sheets

-Cardboard and/or cardstock scraps

-Tub of water (I used a strip of rain gutter filled with water.)

-Paper (for the sail)

-Tape measure

These STEM engineering and design challenges will bring Simple Machines and how each one works to life in your classroom! I have also included information pages about each type of simple machine!

Time to engineer those Simple Machines!
