What educators are saying

My students were able to understand the Preamble and put it in their own words. This is a simple yet complete assignment for students to learn the meaning of the Preamble

Description

With this worksheet, students will learn about the history and purpose of the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States of America. They will also learn to engage with the language of primary documents.

For this activity, the Preamble is broken down into manageable sections. Students will begin by answering guiding questions that help them to develop a deeper understanding of each section. They will then deconstruct the original language, section by section, and determine what the Preamble is saying in their OWN words.

The final product is the Preamble written in student-friendly language. I recommend watching the "School House Rock" Preamble video as a culminating activity - students will be amazed at how much better they understand it!
