Description
Types of Rocks - Metamorphic Rocks - Are you prepared to teach rocks well? Effectively? In an engaging way? You need my Types of Rocks Resources.
My resources on the types of rocks (along with actual rocks) are ALL you need! This is my Metamorphic Rock Packet. My Igneous and Sedimentary rock resources can be purchased separately, or you can purchase ALL my rock resources (including a workbook and 4 assessments) in my Rock Bundle - Types of Rocks and the Rock Cycle (it's AMAZING).
Here is what is included in just this resource:
➀ In-depth Close Reading on metamorphic rocks: How they form, texture, foliation, parent rocks (1 page). Student worksheet with questions. I like to read this first with my students and highlight, then have them go back and re-read for homework and answer questions. Go over answers to questions the next day.
➁ Metamorphic Rock Identification Lab: All you need to add are rocks. Recommended rocks: shale, phyllite, schist, gneiss, marble.
➂ Sorting Sheets. How do you use these?! Watch ✨THIS✨. This is where the magic happens with your students. You will NEVER teach rocks the same way again. 'Sorting Sheets' help students learn both to identify igneous rocks, and to reinforce the ideas of intrusive vs. extrusive and felsic vs. mafic. Laminate these for years of use! Teacher directions provided, along with fun facts about each rock to make the experience memorable for students. They truly ENJOY learning about these.
All of these activities were HUGE hits in my classroom! This would fall in my top 10 "ideas that really worked" category. It truly makes teaching and learning about rocks more enjoyable.
