What educators are saying

Was very helpful for my science unit and used for my moon unit as part of an alternate assessment portfolio
I've used this resource every year when discussing the patterns in the sky. The kids love keeping track of the moon phases.

Description

This is a wonderful activity for students to do during your Objects in the Sky unit. The calendar has a blank moon on each day. During our Objects in the Sky unit, students take home a moon calendar at the beginning of the month. Each night, students look out at the moon and then shade in the moon on their calendar so it matches what they saw in the sky. They do this each night, and by the end of the month, they usually see almost every phase of the moon and the pattern of the phases. I have the students shade in the part of the moon they can't see, so the part left unshaded should be the shape of the moon they see in the sky. They really enjoy this! It is a fun and easy homework activity to help them understand the phases of the moon. This calendar can work for any month- the day numbers are blank and there is a line for you to write what month and year it is. Enjoy!
