Book Companion for There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Clover By: Lucille Colandro

You will need to purchase the book separately.

This 48 page activity pack is perfect for speech or language therapy. The activities included are perfect for speech and language intervention, literacy circles and whole group activities.

Retelling & Story Props: (page 3-5) Print, laminate, and cut out all materials. Attach Velcro to the back of the old lady’s head and attach to an empty tissue box. While telling the story allow your students to feed the old lady the items from pages 4-5. The vocabulary from pages 4-5 can be used to retell the story or sequence events.

Sequencing: (pages 6-9) Color & BW versions are included. Provide each student with a copy. Have your students cut out the vocabulary and sequence the events from the story onto the paper.

Comprehension Questions & Retelling Mat: (pages 10-13) Print and laminate pages 10-13. Cut apart the Question cards pages 11-13. Place Velcro in each box on page 10 and on the backside of each card pages 11-13. There are three levels provided. Attach the question cards to the retelling mat (page 10). As your students answer the questions, they will remove the cards to reveal parts of the mat. Once all of the cards have been removed, the mat can be used to retell the story.

WHY Comprehension questions: (page 14) Print, cut, and laminate. Use with reinforcement activities.

Yes/ No Questions: (page 15) Print & laminate for repeated use.

Matching: (page 16) Provide each student with a copy. Have your students draw a line from what the lady ate to the reason she ate it.

Old Lady Bingo: (pages 117-19+ calling card) Print, laminate, and cut. These boards can be used for identifying vocabulary from the story, identifying by description, describing, etc.

Cut & Paste Rhymes: (page 21) Provide each student with a copy. Have your students cut out the words at the bottom of the page and match to their rhyming pair.

There Was a Cold Lady Interactive Book: (pages 22-28) Directions for how to use/assemble are located on page 29.

The Cold Lady Take n’ Flip: (pages 30-36) Help your students assemble the books together. They will need to cut out the leprechaun, rainbow, and vocabulary and then glue them into the appropriate location within the booklet. These are perfect for your students to take home with them, so they can discuss the book with their family.

Spin, Say, and Record Regular Verbs: (page 37) Provide each student with a worksheet. Directions are on the worksheet.

Find & Color Following Directions: (page 38) Provide each student with a copy. Have your students read the directions at the bottom of the page and color the appropriate item in the picture.

Counting Syllables: (pages 39-40) Print, laminate, and cut. Have your students say each word and identify how many syllables the word has.

Temporal Concepts: (page 41) Print, laminate, and cut on the dotted line. Place the top portion of the page in front of your student, then use the bottom portion to provide the directions.

Prepositions: (page 42) Directions on worksheet.

Roll & Color Reinforcement Worksheet: (pages 43-44) Provide each student with a copy of page 43. You will need to print page 44 on card stock, cut out and glue it together. Directions for this activity are on page 43.

Spin N’ Color Leprechaun: (page 45) Provide each student with a worksheet. Use a pencil and a paper clip to make the spinner. After flicking the paper clip, color the appropriate part of the leprechaun. The first person to complete their leprechaun is the winner.
