Want an exciting and fun activity to get students interested in Data Management? This is the resource for you! Combining competitive gameplay, exciting research, and fun this activity is a surefire way to get your class interested in Data Management. You'll create player profiles and using experimental probability determine the outcome of basketball games played between your favourite teams!

Aligned with Ontario Mathematics Curriculum for grade 8 and easily adapted to any grade level. This is a must use for a sports fan teacher who is trying to get their students engaged!

Students will choose an NBA team, and create a player profile (using the shooting percentages) for 5 players. After that, the students will use NBA statistics to find out the average stats for each player and record them on a player profile. Then, they will use dice or cards to simulate the probability of a player making a shot. Students take turns selecting a player and using their shot attempts until there are none left. The kids will have to use their knowledge of proportional reasoning to figure out the number of shot attempts a player will get. This is loaded with math.
