The main objective of this lesson is to have students examine and describe the reasons for Ancient Ghana’s growth and decline

Resources:

There are three different resources that can be used depending on the activity

  • Reading 1 – The Rise of Ghana (669 words)
  • Reading 2 – The Decline of Ghana (430 words)
  • Rise and Fall of Ghana - Information Chart (424 words)

Using these resources, there are four different activity options….

  • Activity Option 1: Using Reading 1, students complete the worksheet with various tasks about Ghana’s rise
  • Activity Option 2: Using Reading 2, students complete the cause and effect worksheet on Ghana’s decline
  • Activity Option 3: Using any of the resources (the info chart is probably best), students answer the comprehension questions on Ghana’s Rise and Fall
  • Activity Option 4: Using Reading 2 or the Info Chart, students complete the organizer where they determine how reasons for Ghana’s rise also led to its decline.

Full Keys are provided for each activity option!

This lesson has been adapted for digital learning. Students can use apps such as LuminPDF or Dochub to complete and submit the fillable PDF files.
