Description

The Life Cycle of a Seed Reader's Theater script

Level 2

Bring your science standards to life with this engaging Reader's Theater play designed to help your students learn about the life cycle of a sunflower seed. This fun script reinforces reading skills, science standards, science vocabulary, fluency, and speaking and listening skills.

Students will learn about the different stages a sunflower seed goes through starting with the seed and ending with the mature sunflower plant that gets pollinated, grows new seeds, then wilts and releases those new seeds to start the cycle again. Included are diagrams of the life cycle to help students clearly understand each stage.

This script also covers how a sunflower seed needs water, sunlight, and soil to grow as well as how the plant turns light energy into food via photosynthesis.

This is a Level 2 script meaning this would great for your "on grade level students" (grades 2nd-3rd) or your "lower level readers" (grades 4th-5th). There are 9 characters with larger and smaller speaking roles identified on the script. You could easily combine parts for less roles or split up lines to accommodate more readers.

**Click here for a Level 1 Script to better meet the needs of you lower level readers.

This script is rich with vocabulary and has detailed explanations about the life cycle of a seed, making it a Level 2 script. Science vocabulary is underlined throughout the script to reinforce science content and understanding. It is important for all readers to use the proper science terminology. The repetition of reading a script and practicing lines is a great way to help them memorize some of the harder vocabulary words to read.

**Click here for Vocabulary cards to go with this script!

This would be a great tool to use in guided reading groups or in science centers. To extent it further, you could have students design a backdrop and props and perform this play for their classmates or families which is always fun!
