Description

This resource is a reader's notebook book study (novel study) for The Knight at Dawn: Magic Tree House #2, by Mary Pope Osborne, Book #2 in the Magic Tree House chapter book series.

Students love having their own little notebooks. Teachers love having students think deeply about text. And who doesn’t love Jack and Annie?

Combine all of this good stuff with my book study for The Kight at Dawn. It's easy to prepare and can be used in several ways: independent book study, partner reading assignment, student book club, guided reading group, or even a guided whole class book study! (Note: Each student using this book study should have a copy of the book. Actual book not included.)

Check out the preview for a closer look!

The Reader’s Notebook printables include BEFORE-reading, DURING-reading, and AFTER-reading activity pages (2 for each chapter = 20 in all, plus a book club meeting template), and aligned to Common Core Standards.

Pages include:

  • Notebook Cover Page (color and b/w options)
  • Notebook Checklist
  • Informational Text (Building Background)
  • Accessing Prior Knowledge
  • Vocabulary Study
  • Structured Note-taking
  • Text in Focus (Close Reading on specific excerpts)
  • Taking Text Further (Extending Meaning)
  • "Chapter Check Up" (Basic comprehension questions for each chapter)
  • Book Club Meeting Agenda template
  • "Track It! Jacket" (Giving students one thing to track throughout the story)

Formats include:

  • Half-Page layout
  • Full-Page layout
  • Answer Key

(Note: In the half-page layout, two copies of each page will print on each sheet of paper. With each set you print/copy, you'll chop the sheets in half and staple along the top edge, creating two fun little notebooks! If you need only one notebook, I've also included a single-student version to help you save paper.)
