The Hill We Climb Poetry Companion Activities

The world witnessed Amanda Gorman deliver a wonderful poem recitation at the 2021 United States Presidential Inauguration. "The Hill We Climb" Poetry Companion Activities has many opportunities for students to learn about the author and her accomplishments. Students will also think critically about the poem by various analysis prompts. Other activities include looking for symbolism, metaphors, rhyming, repetition, interpreting texts, unfamiliar words, word choices -- vivid and/or figurative language and comprehension questions that extend understanding by connecting, comparing, and contrasting the ideas to personal connections (text to self, text to world, text to text). This is a digital resource on PowerPoint. The PowerPoint can be used in your virtual classroom and has text boxes throughout for student response. This is the perfect time to bring poetry into the classroom and show the impact and importance that one poem can make.
