What educators are saying

Great resource! I found it to be a great opening lesson to both the Holocaust and to poetry. They also loved designing their butterflies!
The students loved creating the butterflies to put up around the room. We used this at the beginning of our Holocaust unit so that our butterflies were up the entire unit.

Description

Looking for a meaningful way to honor Holocaust victims? With respect and dignity, Pavel Friedmann's poem, The Butterfly, guides students through a close reading of the text, a paired short answer response, and the option to create their own butterfly in honor of Holocaust victims.

The teachers in my middle school found this activity to be a meaningful closure to a Holocaust unit.
