What educators are saying

We've been practicing gratitude in our morning meeting. I've copied a bunch of them to have them always available for students to show gratitude.
This lesson was a very effective tool in teaching all about acts of kindness and showing appreciation for others. The writing activities were very well designed and the lesson was easy to follow. Thank you!

Description

Teach the art of the thank you note card to spread gratitude and kindness in your middle or high school with this 3-part letter writing project.

Complete all 3 parts at once or throughout the year:

  • School-wide thank you card flash mob
  • Thoughtful note of appreciation to someone from your past
  • Researched thank you letter to a never-met-before hero for their contribution

This complete kit comes with

  • 30 card designs, especially for middle or high school students
  • Project sheets, templates, samples, and rubrics
  • All materials in both print PDF and digital for Google Slides

Supplemental activities to introduce and round out this project incorporate the children’s books Have You Filled a Bucket Today and An Awesome Book of Thanks, as well as an inspiring TED Talk on the small acts of leadership with included debrief questions.

Greatness is taking the time to express one’s gratitude for others.

This is a great no-prep 3-part project to keep on-hand for those slower points of the year or right before a holiday break. Each part can be done in isolation, spaced out as far or as close together as you’d like! Or complete all three steps at once for a 2-week campaign to spread kindness.

3 project segments:

  • Whole-School Thank You flash mob to make the day of every single student at your school
  • Long overdue thank you to send gratitude for a long-ago gesture by an old friend or family member
  • Out of the Blue Thank You to extend appreciation to a never-met living hero

Ideas for when to complete:

  • November Season of Gratitude
  • December Season of Giving
  • February Acts of Kindness
  • May End-of-Year Love

Included in this 3-Part Thank You writing project:

  • Teacher Overview with 4 pages of detailed step-by-step lesson plans
  • Student 3-Part Project Overview and brainstorm/research sheet
  • Whole-School Thank You Overview, with sample note and rubric sheets
  • Long-Overdue Thank You Overview, with sample note and rubric sheets
  • Out-of-the-Blue Thank You Overview, with sample note and rubric sheets
  • Editable Google Slide version of all student materials

BONUS 34 thank you card designs included

  • 16 quarter-sheet for informal classmate notes
  • 10 half-sheet designs for more formal notes
  • 4 whole-sheet designs for an accommodation option
  • 4 digital designs to send via email
  • All in 4 different design genres - punny food, modern abstract, black & white doodle, and bright icon

Tips from my Classroom:

I save this project for the couple of weeks of downtime we have between Homecoming wrapping up and the start of winter season activities, which is usually early November. The perfect time to kick off a gratitude campaign!

Every year, the whole student body is excited to get their thank you cards, and I see them poking out of binders and backpacks for weeks afterward! This also sets up great practice for the rest of the year in writing thank you cards, which we do a lot of in our Leadership class!
