Description

Our Anne Frank Google Earth is a high-engagement way to give an Introduction Tour of the geography of the story's world. The first time I busted out Google Earth on the projector to introduce a unit, all my learners were riveted. And they still are...every time.

Germany, Amsterdam, the ghettos, and concentration camps...they get to see it all in 3D zoomed in to the street view. It's rockin awesome!

This Google Earth tour has a whole bunch of important locations saved for you to visit before/while reading The Diary of Anne Frank with your students:

Hospital Zum Heiligengeist - Anne Frank's birthplace in Frankfurt am Main

Old Jewish Quarters - Where Anne Frank, family, and friends lived before going into hiding

Switzerland - To throw the Nazis off their trail when the family went into hiding, Mr. Otto Frank left behind a letter saying the family had fled here

Anne Frank House - The hideout where Anne Frank and family and friends hid from the Nazis

Westerkerk Church - The church down the street from their hideout that they heard every hour on the hour for years

Warsaw Ghetto - This is one of the largest Jewish ghettos

Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp - This is the camp where Anne Frank, Margot, and Auguste were sent

Auschwitz Death Camp - This is the camp where Mr. Frank was sent via train

→ These resources work with both the 2017 Anne Frank Goodrich and Hackett stage play [ISBN: 978-1607969341], THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK. We will soon be adding resources based on the 1991 edition memoir THE DIARY OF A YOUNG GIRL by Anne Frank [0-385-48033-4].

★ We've filmed a YouTube video tutorial to acquaint you with the software.

★ Also, try downloading this free Google Earth tutorial .pdf handout for further reference.

NOTE: If you've already purchased our other version of this for non-digital classrooms, you've likely already figured out how to use this in your 1:1 classroom, so there is no need to get this. If you don't have either version yet and you're working with digital 1:1 learners, then get this version. It has instructions that are more useful for your journey of getting started.

Enjoy! And let's together believe there's still some good in this world.

WHAT OTHER TEACHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT THIS GOOGLE EARTH RESOURCE

♥ One of my best purchases! It can take some time to get set up, depending on your experience with Google Earth. The video tutorials are really helpful, and the provided instructions and explanations are thorough which make the set up process relatively stress-free!

♥ The students LOVE seeing the locations! For many of my CA kids, this is the closest they've ever been. It made it more real for them to imagine.

"You mean this is a real place?" That's what I heard all day when I presented this :-). The kids really loved "walking" around.

♥ This is one of my most favorite tools to use! My rural, Midwestern students did benefit from seeing the locations. It's a neat idea. My students love the visual and the "realness" of the places!

♥ This is a great activity for my AP Lit students. Students are consistently engaged with this resource. It's nice to have something exciting when starting a new book, and this is just what I needed. The instructions were very thorough

Labeled and easy to navigate. This is pretty nifty, and helpful for the more visual learners! :) They requested that we use it several times! I love having the map open while we are reading and zooming in to each place we talk about. My kids thought this was great and so did my principal. Thank you for making the story come alive!
