Description
ABOUT SWEET16 LITERACY
The Sweet Sixteen is a systematic process that provides cyclical repetition of essential literacy standards to enhance the growth of literacy skills from an early stage. The goal of Sweet Sixteen is to bridge the gap of reading deficiencies so students are on track and on target for reading proficiency by grade 3. Through a daily, ten-minute, structured warm-up, students engage in repeated exposure to these “non-negotiable” skills that help to increase reading achievement. The Sweet Sixteen identifies Critical Focus Areas (CFAs) built around foundational skills and daily class time to practice these CFAs, even as the teacher covers different content during instructional time. This cyclical pattern ensures that students do not forget the concepts they studied earlier in the year and cements their learning into habit.
