What educators are saying
Description
Are you looking to expand your collection of short informational text perfect for close reading? Text that you and your students can read and reread in one session? If so, then I think you will love this first volume of articles in a new Informational Text series of mine called Hello 411.
I wrote and designed these informational text articles for my students because I was looking for text that was short, interesting, looked like a real article with real photographs and were good examples of different nonfiction text structures. These articles are ideal for close reading in grades 3-8 or as read-alouds, shared reading or group reading activities in grades K-2.
And, do you have a range of readers in your class? These articles are perfect because every child can read the same article but at *their* level, it's like a differentiated class set of texts because there are five articles written (by me) at four different lexile levels ranging from 770L - 1080L. Passage topics are all related to pop culture and/or global awareness in the 21st century...basically, hot or interesting topics to kids, not time or month sensitive, and crossing boundaries of culture, ethnicity, income, and socioeconomic status. Passage titles are:
Chicken Nuggets, Anyone? (chronological order)
The Vortex of Video Games (cause/effect)
The Art of the Selfie (description)
Laundry Around the World (compare/contrast)
Polar Bear Predicament (problem/solution)
