Description

Aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), students will go beyond simple Dominant/Recessive traits and make predictions using a multiple allele trait (Clover leaf pattern). It is perfect for St. Patrick's Day, or whenever you need to take genetics a step further then Mendelian Genetics.

This lesson proceeds as follows:

1. Students read one page of background information

2. Students complete a matching task for genetics vocabulary

3. Students work through Punnett Squares involving clover leaf pattern (a multiple alleles trait)

I'm new to TPT, and would love feedback if you have a minute. I'm adding new content on a weekly basis, so click follow me under my store name to be the first to know.

If you like this, try Animal Cracker Ecology. My students love it. It is NGSS Aligned.

A. NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS HEREIN

DCI’s: LS3.A: Inheritance

Cross Cutting Concepts: Patterns, Scale, Proportion, and Quantity,

Scientific and Engineering Practices:

Analyzing and Interpreting Data

Developing and Using Models

Using Mathematical and Computational Thinking

B. SUGGESTED USES

Prior Knowledge: Students should have a foundation in genetics, Mendelian Genetics, and Punnett squares before performing this activity.

Implementing the Lesson:

Materials and Setup: This packet requires no additional materials (other than green colored pencil). I suggest that students work in pencil, and that they use a green colored pencil or marker to draw the phenotypes.
