~Sea-Level Rising by 2025: A Research Project~

This is a research activity concerning the transformation of global shorelines due to global warming, but before the research begins, students enjoy a fictional short story that introduces them to some background information about global warming.

Includes:

· A short story and poem, fantasy fiction with a delightful story to learn about global warming. The story takes place in the Arctic and Reykjavik, Iceland. Locate Iceland on the map which is included in this resource.

· The main character, Catori, is a Native American girl who is spiritually connected to nature.

· Students learn 6 facts about global warming.

· Your class can enjoy a “Secret Tea Society Party” where they learn to spell their first names backwards as a way of joining the party. Rated: “Highly engaging!”

· Appropriate for Grades 5 on up. STEM and close-reading with informational text. Geography.

· An Easel Assessment (self-correcting).

· Research begins with a list of 15 cities from around the world that have been identified as being at greatest risk for flooding and includes maps of each city.

· Students are tasked with locating these 15 cities on the world map which has been provided (close-up individual maps of each city are included.) Students will need to locate these cities on a world map by researching.

-Problem-solve: What can be done and what is being done? Such as new concepts in construction, run-off areas, beneficial agricultural practices, relocation, etc.
