What educators are saying
Description
Are you struggling to get your students to wash their hands? This simple experiment is a great way to give students a visual as to why hand washing is a vital part to combat the spreading of germs! This experiment is perfect for the beginning of the school year, winter when germs seem to spread with exceptional ease, or for a science fair project. Activities are aimed for students in 3rd/4th grade, but many can be adjusted to fit younger grades.

I hope this unit is as valuable for your class as it was for mine!
→Please note...this is a science experiment. I cannot promise that it will work out perfectly every time! Climate, type of bread used (organic, fresh, preservatives, etc), moisture in the air...all these can play a factor in your outcome. For best results, I would recommend using bread from your local bakery that is fresh with minimal preservatives, but I have done the experiment with regular cheap bread and had it work great too. For an even more inclusive experiment, try several different kinds of breads. It's a science experiment, have fun with it! :) ←
