- Important note on the “Rock and Roll” and “Rock” resources…
Rock & Roll was just too influential in the history of American music to limit to a single lesson, so I split it into two.
The “Rock & Roll” resource focuses on the advent of Rock & Roll in the 1950s when music became more about the performance than the recording (e.g. Elvis shaking his hips, Chuck Berry working the guitar, Jerry Lee Lewis abusing the piano, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, etc.).
The “Rock” resource covers what many of us now refer to as "classic rock", focusing more on the 1960s with artists like the Beatles, Zepplin, the Stones, Clapton, Hendrix, Joplin, the Doors, etc.).
There are 20 Genres to choose from on over 400 beautifully designed slides including: ragtime, gospel, blues, jazz, country, swing, folk, pop, bluegrass, R&B (Rhythm and Blues), Rock & Roll, Soul, Rock, Funk, Reggae, Disco, Alternative, Hip Hop, Metal, Rap
Each download contains a 40-slide PowerPoint (15 universal, 25 genre-specific) and a detailed graphic organizer for students to follow along (in both PDF and MS WORD format)
Each PowerPoint gives background, primary source quotations, images, details and characteristics of the music, as well as links to music, videos, clips and more. Studying each genre could take 1-3 days, depending on how many music samples you choose to show.
These highly engaging resources could be used in many ways, like:
* Enrichment at the Elementary level
* Middle School or High School for a "history of music" or "history of rock n' roll class"
* High School U.S. History
* To supplement any music class
