What educators are saying
Description
This resource includes 5 different nonfiction reading passages. Each passage includes 3 versions with varying degrees of difficulty (15 total passages). The multi-level passages make it easy to differentiate instruction.
Not only are the passages written about engaging topics that students can connect to, they are also written in an engaging style. The DOODLE-STYLE of the passages makes them unique and engaging. Here’s the coolest part: as students read each article, they’ll have opportunities to show their understandings in a wildly fun way: with doodles.
These passages are designed to develop students’ reading skills in the most delightful way!
DIFFERENTIATED PASSAGES
There are three versions of each doodle passage. The versions are written at varying degrees of difficulty. This means that you can select the best passage for your entire class, small groups, or individual students. Differentiation has never been easier!
FOCUSED SKILLS
The passages will help students develop their reading comprehension skills. While the passages address a variety of skills, each passage focuses on a particular reading skill. Specifically, these passages address:
- Author’s Purpose
- Cause and Effect
- Fact and Opinion
- Compare and Contrast
- Sequencing
Mini-lessons are included to pre-teach or review each of the targeted reading comprehension skills.
DOODLE PASSAGES and CHECKS FOR UNDERSTANDING
Students will not only read the nonfiction texts, they’ll also respond and interact with the texts with doodle prompts throughout the passages. The tasks occur throughout the passage so that students have frequent checks for understanding.
The doodle tasks allow students to:
- Practice active reading skills.
- Interact with their reading.
- Connect to the passage.
- Understand what they are reading.
- Note important features of literature.
- Develop a clear picture of the text.
- Investigate, reflect on, synthesize, and process their reading.
COMPREHENSION QUESTIONS
A set of 6 comprehension questions is included with each passage at each level. The questions are designed to:
