Description

Elementary Music Planning - semester 2

After Christmas Break, the school year seems to fly by. I do an all school folk dancing night, programs, and an end-of-year Talent Show. It is really important for me not to lose sight of the concepts I am working on with each grade level during these hectic, final months of school.

To help myself, and other teachers, I have mapped out the final months of school (Jan.-May) in an editable excel file for each grade level. This allows me to quickly see what concepts I've covered and what/when I plan to prepare/present and practice the remaining concepts for the school year.

I have included a blank template for each grade level (K-5) as well as a completed template for Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade of the months January through May to give you an idea. Customize them to fit your needs!

Once you have your (half) year plans completed, go to your song lists for each grade level to find the repertoire to teach those concepts on your monthly overview plans.I have included an editable completed song list for each grade level (updated 12/28/13) with suggested concepts for each grade level.

Once you have you song lists, it makes lesson planning much easier! Just look at where you are in your long term planning to see what rhythmic and melodic concepts you want to prepare/present/practice, then head to the song lists to find the repertoire you want for your lesson plans.

PLEASE NOTE- This set does not include individual lesson plans or completed concept plans. It is a starting place so that you can take it and make it your own for your classroom. I truly believe that lesson plans should be so personal to the teacher and the students. Take these ideas and find out how they work for you to keep you organized and on track! Also, some of the files utilize Music Ed font. In order to read those correctly, you would need to have the font installed on your computer. You can find it here: Music Ed Font
-OR- select the file that says (rhythm syllables) and it will have all of the rhythm syllables written out instead of using the music ed font (JUST ADDED 12/28/13)

My plans are based off the Kodaly Method of teaching, so the song lists and concept plans are geared towards preparing, presenting, and practicing concepts in a developmentally appropriate order. They will best be utilized by teachers who have had Kodaly certification or who are interested in implementing it in their teaching.

Stay focused and on track as you finish out the school year!
