WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THIS UNIT?

OUTLINE OF LESSONS
I label each lesson with a number to help keep you organized! A lesson outline is also included so you can see how I sequence the activities and slideshows. This is just a recommended guide, but you can use the lessons and activities however you prefer.
THREE SLIDESHOWS
Two beautiful slideshows using real-life pictures are included explaining what it means to be alive as well as building student background about botany. An additional slideshow uses detailed clip art to show the steps in the lifecycle of a plant.
HANDS-ON EXPERIMENTS
Two experiments are included.
1. We explore what plants need to survive - air, soil, water, sunlight, and space to grow. What happens when plants don't receive what they need?
2. We have so much fun planting seeds! Student love to plant seeds, make observations and watch their plants grow.
I provide supply ideas, picture directions, hypothesis recording sheets, observation forms, labels, real life picture posters, examples, adorable student name tags for their plants and more!
MY BOTANY BOOK
You can make each student their own book about botany! Each page is labeled with which lesson it corresponds to, and you can staple them all together for a convenient activity book. At the end of the unit, students then have a book they can take home and share with their family that has everything they learned about botany.
Please note: in the unit download, you'll see a separate PDF file that has the pages of the botany book organized for you. I also included each page in the unit itself in case you decide to use each page separately with the lesson (and not make one activity book).
PICTURE POCKET CARDS
Two lessons come with picture cards to be sorted in a chart. You can do this whole group to teach the lesson and then move it to a science center for continued practice.
There are picture cards for:
Lesson #1: alive versus not alive
Lesson #7: plant lifecycle
FLIP BOOKS
Two adorable flip books are included for students to make: the plant lifecycle and what plants need to grow. They are labeled to be used with specific lessons in the unit.
VOCABULARY CHARTS/POSTERS
These adorable charts can be used with specific lessons, and black and white versions are included for students to trace the words and color the pictures.
CUT/PASTE ACTIVITIES
We love cut and paste activities to follow a lesson. I use these to check for understanding after two lessons in this unit.
LIFECYCLE MINI BOOK
Students get to make their own mini book in lesson four: the plant lifecycle. They can read the sentence, trace the vocabulary word and color the picture. When we are done, they can read their book to a partner.
