What educators are saying

I loved using this with my students. I gave it 5 stars because like all things from It's Not Rocket Science, it is amazing.
Excellent no prep tests! I use the videos and worksheets of the main curriculum daily, and this pairs well with it. I am a math teacher teaching a section of physical science this semester and this has been a lifesaver!

Description

This product is everything you need to administer a successful midterm and final exam in your physical science classroom – plus the supportive resources you need to review with your students. This physical science exam pack includes editable versions of midterm and final exams, all differentiated for CP and honors level classes. All tests include multiple choice and open response questions, plus detailed answer keys. Best of all, everything in this pack is editable so you can perfectly customize it to your classroom and your needs. This is also a GREAT resource to use as review or practice tests for standardized End of Course exams!

Why should I use this product in my classroom?

Exams can take so much time to make and differentiate between levels – plus on top of that you have to create review resources that correlate. Save yourself the time and let me do the work for you! If you are worried about it being a perfect match for your classroom and curriculum, know that everything is editable so you can make it exactly what you need! If you do already own my full year physical science curriculum, this resource perfectly aligns!

What is included?

  • 2 pages of teacher implementation notes (PDF)
  • 2 editable review study guides with practice questions – one for the chemistry half (38 vocab words + 60 questions) of physical science and one for the physics half (40 vocab words + 40 questions) (PDF and Word docs)
  • 4 editable exams (2 midterm, 2 final) for CP and honors level physical science classes. Each test is 6-8 pages and includes 25-35 multiple-choice questions and 25-30 open response questions. (PDF and Word docs)
  • Detailed answer keys for each test and the review practice questions (PDFs and PowerPoints)
  • Password Physical Science Review Game (PowerPoint)
  • Physics-based reference sheet of equations and conversion factors and a chemistry-based reference sheet of polyatomic ions and the periodic table (PDFs)

What is covered on each test?

The midterm exam covers introduction to physics content that I cover in the first semester of my physical science curriculum, including:

  • Introductory content, such as: scientific method, scientific notation dimensional analysis, temperature conversions, and metric conversions
  • Motion and force topics, such as: describing motion, distance and displacement calculations, speed, velocity, and acceleration calculations, motion graphing (D vs. T graphs and V vs. T graphs),  friction, air resistance, and gravity, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Law of conservation of momentum, 2nd law and momentum calculations
  • Energy topics, such as: kinetic and gravitational potential energy calculations, conservation of energy and energy conversions, thermal energy transfer and calculations, work and power calculations
  • Electricity and magnetism topics, such as: transfer of charge: conduction, friction, and induction, conductors and insulators, Ohm’s Law calculations, series and parallel circuits, circuit drawing, and in introduction to magnets
  • Waves topics, such as: nature of mechanical and electromagnetic waves, parts of transverse and longitudinal waves, properties (including amplitude, frequency, wavelength, period, and speed), calculations (of wave speed, frequency, wavelength, and period), behaviors (including reflection, refraction, diffraction, absorption, interference, and resonance), electromagnetic spectrum

The final exam covers introduction to chemistry content that I cover in the second semester of my physical science curriculum, including:

  • Matter topics, such as: classification of matter, properties of matter, volume and density calculations, physical vs. chemical changes, law of conservation of matter, states of matter, heating curves, solutions and solubility curves (Honors only)
  • Atomic structure topics, such as: structure of the atom, periodic table notation, atomic calculations with atomic number and mass number, isotopes – notation and calculation, periodic table arrangement (group names and characteristics, periods, energy levels, and electrons), classification of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids, Bohr model drawings
  • Bonding topics, such as: stability in forming compounds, naming and writing chemical formulas for ionic and covalent compounds, electron dot/Lewis dot drawings to show chemical bonds
  • Reactions topics, such as: balancing and classifying chemical reactions, factors that affect the rate of chemical reactions

*Note* All tests are editable so you can rearrange and/or add to them based on any additional content you teach or if you teach in a different order! Additionally, if you do chemistry first and physics second, you can just swap which exam you use as the midterm vs. the final!
