Description
Use this package of nine chapter-by-chapter question sheets as you take your class through Elie Wiesel’s compelling true story, Night. As we work to pull more non-fiction materials into our Common Core-aligned classrooms, this autobiographical account of life in inside the Nazi Germany concentration camps of WWII is an important title to include.
These short answer worksheets will pull your students into Elie Wiesel’s story and inspire them to think deeply about the author’s themes.
This packet includes nine pages of student handouts with detailed questions (plot points, inference, and personal connections – one sheet per chapter) covering all nine chapters of Night. A separate seven-page detailed answer key is also included, of course. (A total of 16 pages in PDF format. A Google Drive version for online learning is also included.)
In addition to working as homework assignments, the sheets can also serve as small-group or full-class discussion starters, short-answer quizzes, and/or differentiated enrichment. I like to mix-and-match the worksheets to keep things fresh as we work through our Night unit. More details on this here: https://laurarandazzo.com/2017/06/23/conquering-question-fatigue/
Please note: These questions were built using the Hill and Wang Publishers’ 2006 version of Elie Wiesel’s memoir. Spellings of names/locations (and page number references in the answer key) may vary, depending on the version used in your classroom.
Any study of Night is nicely complemented with this two-day compare/contrast activity taking a look at the opening chapters of two other well-regarded WW2 memoirs, Unbroken and Farewell to Manzanar.
