Narrative Writing – Personal Narrative - DIGITAL Version

Narrative Writing will be exciting using Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive and this engaging, step-by-step paperless resource! Students type onto the slides responding to prompts that lead them through all steps of the writing process. An original mentor text is included along with writing instruction and revising techniques that result in strong narratives!

THE NARRATIVE WRITING SLIDES:

---WRITING A PERSONAL NARRATIVE - The elements of a personal narrative are explained

---TOPIC JUMPSTARTS/ BRAINSTORMING – Ten different “situation” topics are provided with areas for students to brainstorm for each

---NARROW DOWN YOUR TOPIC – After deciding on a topic, students are prompted to narrow down their experience to the most meaningful part

---PLANNING YOUR WRITING – Pre-writing organizer slides where students type in their details for setting, characters, and beginning, middle, and ending events

---DRAFTING YOUR LEAD – Examples of two styles of leads are provided, and students then compose a lead for each style and compare/discuss with a peer

---PUNCTUATING DIALOGUE – Examples that demonstrate rules for punctuating dialogue and practice sentences for students to complete

---TRANSITIONS – A list of transitions and transitional phrases and clauses commonly used in narrative writing

---AWESOME ADJECTIVES – To emphasize description, 15 vivid adjectives are listed in word boxes, and students type the appropriate adjectives into the sentences provided

---SENSORY ADJECTIVES – A list of 105 sensory adjectives for students to use, categorized under taste, sight, touch, smell, and sound

---VOICE IN YOUR WRITING – Several techniques to enhance voice in a narrative are demonstrated for students to incorporate in their writing

---MENTOR TEXT – “All in a Moment” Personal Narrative mentor text provides students with a strong model for their writing

---DRAFTING YOUR NARRATIVE – Slides with text boxes where students are directed to type their drafts.

---REVISING YOUR DRAFT – Students complete a series of slides with revision activities to strengthen use of dialogue, specific details, adjectives, transitions, voice, and concluding reflection.

---EDITING CHECKLIST – A writing conventions checklist students follow and check off as they carefully edit their revised drafts

---FINAL COPY – Three attractive slides with decorative edges are provided for students’ final copy of the essay

---NARRATIVE WRITING RUBRIC – An optional 4-point rubric for grading the final copy of the narrative

Great for differentiation, as self-directed learners will be able to move through the slides independently and create strong narratives! The directions to students and sequenced instruction provided on the slides are designed to encourage independent 1:1 learning.
