Description

If you’re looking for a way to infuse some additional fun into your math lessons, I know you’ll LOVE My Monster! Math Trading Cards Games! My Monster! is a trading card game that helps you teach math concepts while engaging 3rd-5th grade students. Trading Cards are all the rage, and this set will help engage students in addition, subtraction, place value, and multiplication. There are a variety of activities included in the resource, so you can mix and match and decide what works best for your students.

Math Trading Card Games for 3rd - 5th - Addition, Subtraction & Multiplication Includes:

  • Instructions for Use
  • My Monster! Posters
  • 216 Math Trading Cards (prints on 27 pages)

Activities & Games Included:

  • Getting to Know My Monsters– Ordering numbers (greatest to least)
  • Comparing Numbers (into the thousands)
  • Addition Properties (associative, identity, and commutative)
  • Adding Groups of Ten
  • Adding Groups of Hundreds
  • Estimation to the Hundreds
  • Subtracting Groups of Ten
  • Subtracting larger numbers (up to thousands)

What You Need to Begin:

You will need to print the My Monster trading cards. There are 216 cards. These are on 27 pages. I would HIGHLY suggest printing these in color, and laminating them before you cut them out. You will be using these cards for all activities, so you want to make sure they are durable. Also print out the My Monster posters, which show the rarity of the monsters. Post these in your room.

How to Begin with Students:

Now is the fun part. Talk up the cards! Explain to students that they are going to begin playing games using My Monster! trading cards. Show the kids the cards and explain the rarity of some of the cards, as well as explaining that they will have the chance to earn new cards and trade with friends. Tell students that today they will receive 8 cards. Have each of the kids choose their cards. To get to know their cards, have them lay out their cards from greatest Scare Power to the lowest. Explain to students that there are two important numbers that they will need to know about: Scare Power and Experience. These will be used in each of the activities.

These activities are great for small groups, math centers, partner games, and any other time you’re looking to sneak in a little math practice in a fun way!

⭐ My class is loving the Monster cards and activities! I am noticing that each game has 6 rounds and then a winner...so I keep asking them to add a round #7 to each game so that they will not tie each other. It would be fantastic to have a Round 7 added to the games. Thank you :)

⭐ OMGosh. Why have I not bought this sooner?! This resource is so. much. fun. My kiddos this year are going to love it as one of our centers during the first few weeks while we work on higher addition and subtraction. Then, I cannot wait to integrate it when we work on higher multiplication! The clipart used is gorgeous, the format is easy for students AND me (hahaha) to understand, and it's working on those pertinent skills that students NEED to know. Thank you so much for creating this resource. I love it!

⭐ My students are loving these cards.  Everybody finds their own way to do things..... I let them all start with 3 and we do an incentive in the class to earn more.  We do the battles but I have changed things to fit my level of students.  I'm printing and laminating a second set and placing stars on them to make them more "powerful" as in Pokemon' cards.  It's amazing how these cards have engaged the students.
