Description

Celebrate Mother’s Day with these fun and meaningful activities for older kids! These writing resources will give your intermediate students a chance to reflect on their relationship with their moms and express their appreciation in a creative and heartfelt way. With everything from Mother’s Day crafts to expository writing with the various activities, you can pick and choose what you want students to work on or let them decide! 

Easily include these low-prep activities into your writing curriculum this May! This resource includes detailed instructions and prompts to guide your students as they write meaningful messages to their moms.

The writing prompts are designed to help students think deeply about their moms and the qualities they admire and love most. A great reflective activity to add to any upper-grade literacy block! 

Activities Included:

  • TIMELESS Magazine - Mother of the Year Article - In this activity, students write a magazine article about their mother for the Mother Of The Year title of Timeless Magazine. A great way to review text features.
  • Mug for Mom - Students will select a word to write on a mug for their mom and explain why they selected the word. 
  • Tumbler for Mom- students will decorate a tumbler for their mom and complete a short writing prompt
  • Mom, You are Ink-tastic!- students will complete a short writing prompt
  • What I Admire Most- Students write about what they admire most about their mom. 
  • Envelope Craft - Students write about their moms following the given prompts and then follow instructions to put inside the included heart envelopes. 
  • Circle Craft- Students follow writing prompts and craft instructions to make a fun, thoughtful craft. 
  • Digital Mother's Day Scrapbook - Since some of the activities can’t be completed digitally, this digital scrapbook is included! Ready to go text boxes and animated GIFs

These are purposeful and fun activities that will help your students develop their writing skills, reflect on their relationships, and celebrate the important role that mothers play in their lives.
