Description

This introduction to poetry lesson goes over all the vocabulary your students need to know in order to discuss and analyze poetry.

It includes a 41 slide PowerPoint Presentation with guided notes and teacher answer key. I created this Poetry Presentation because it is exactly what I want to use in my classroom as a Middle School ELA teacher to begin my Poetry Unit!

The poetry terms the presentation introduces:

  • Prose
  • Elements of Poetry: Lines, Stanzas, Rhyme, Meter, Rhythm, Tone, Mood
  • Forms of Poetry: Shape Poetry, Dramatic Poetry, Acrostic Poetry, Narrative Poetry, Haiku, Free Verse
  • Figurative Language, Figures of Speech:

-Simile, Metaphor, Personification, Hyperbole, Imagery, Idiom

  • Sound Devices:

-Alliteration, Assonance, Onomatopoeia

The lesson will take about 20-30 minutes to complete.
