Descriptive Writing Unit | Middle School Writing Activities | No Prep Writing

⭐”My Perfect Place” Descriptive Writing Project: Students write their first draft of this descriptive writing assignment at the start of the unit. The assignment is then collected, and handed out for revision at the end of the unit. This gives students the opportunity to use their new found skills to improve their writing. Second draft paper, good copy paper, and an illustration page are also included. Completed assignments make gorgeous bulletin board displays!

⭐”Show Me Sentences” Activities: A variety of activities are included to help students practice writing descriptive sentences that “show” instead of “tell”.

⭐Show Don’t Tell – Feelings: Students use the included worksheets to help brainstorm ways to show different feelings in their writing. Two different brainstorming sheets (with answer keys featuring possible answers) and a descriptive writing and illustrating activity are included.

⭐Show Don’t Tell – Five Senses: Students use the included worksheets to help brainstorm ways to improve their writing by making it appeal to the 5 senses. Two different brainstorming sheets, with answer keys featuring possible answers, are included.

⭐Hershey Kiss Descriptive Writing Activity: Students are given a Hershey Kiss, and must describe it in a way that appeals to the five senses. A step by step guide to take students through the writing process is included.

⭐Cookie Descriptive Writing Activity: Students are given a cookie, and must describe it using both “Show” and “Tell” sentences.

⭐Descriptive Writing - Colors: Students are given a variety of crayons, and must come up with new descriptive names for each color. Detailed instructions included.

⭐Descriptive Writing Prompts: Two different writing prompt activities are included, to help students practice their descriptive writing skills.

Arthurian Legends Unit | King Arthur | Knights and Chivalry | Activities

⭐Arthurian Legends Notes: Includes detailed notes about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, as well as a guided note template for students to fill in important information.

⭐King Arthur Pre-Reading Activity: a short quiz to see what students really know about King Arthur and his knights. A great introduction to the unit. Answer key included!

⭐Create Your One Magazine Cover: The Most Chivalrous Man Alive: Students research some of the knights of King Arthur, and create a full color magazine cover of information relating to the knight they find most worthy of the title of The Most Chivalrous Man Alive! Students love this activity, and they look great hung on the classroom wall!

⭐Code of Chivalry Questions: Students examine the Code of Chivalry, and answer questions comparing the code to rules governing modern times.

⭐Sir Lancelot and the Code of Chivalry: After learning about Sir Lancelot and his exploits with Guinevere, Students examine a copy of the Code of Chivalry (included!), and explain why (or why not) they feel Lancelot follows the code.

⭐Modern Day Code of Chivalry: After examining the Code of Chivalry, students create their own modern codes to live by. The comparing and contrasting of the different codes makes for great class discussion!

⭐King Arthur Movie Project: After learning about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, students choose a favorite tale to represent in movie form. Students must write their own scripts and video tape their stories to play for the class. Students love this! A great way to review the tales!

⭐“The Childhood of Arthur” Informational Text and Questions: Students read the page of information on the childhood of King Arthur, then answer questions and summarize the reading. Answer key included.

⭐“The Sword in the Stone” Full Text Story and Comprehension Pennant Project: Students read through the included story and use it to help them answer a set of comprehension questions. Pages can then be assembled into a fun bulletin board project! Two different versions of the story are included - one regular text, and one with space for annotations. Full instructions and answer key included!

⭐King Arthur Graphic Organizers: A variety of graphic organizers to go along with any version of the Arthurian Legends is included. These graphic organizers ask students to examine key character and plot points, compare and contrast, and practice reading strategies. Information and suggestions on where to find kid-friendly versions of the legends (text and online ideas) is included.

⭐Close Reading Resources: Several pages of my best selling close reading resources have been included, to use with any version of the legends.
