Martin Luther King, Jr. is an important person for our students to learn about. Remembering the facts about his life can be difficult and we all know teaching about timelines can be hard too.
I have combined MLK and timelines. The students will be creating a timeline chain.
This fun product was created to help students understand how to create a timeline and USE a timeline!
The students will each be given 3 pages with MLK dates on them, questions, and an MLK cut out. The students will color, cut apart the events, answer the questions, and create a chain with the correct sequence of events. When finished, the students will glue one small portion of the first link to the MLK cut out. The students will then have a MLK Timeline Chain to display their knowledge of the events in MLK’s life.

If your students have ever made one of those Christmas paper chains, this is the same concept! Easy but effective!
Each chain has facts and a date about MLK's life.
The links are NOT in order on the page because we are trying to assess their knowledge of how a timeline works. However, the years are on the links, so the students should have no trouble. The questions are where the assessment of USING a timeline happens.
Each type of chain comes in either color or black and white (to save on ink!) With the black and white version, just have the students color the pictures.
What a great project to help your students in the area of timelines and MLK!
