Description
Are you tired of teaching dull classroom assignments? Are hour-long PowerPoint presentations putting your kids to sleep? Then we’ve got the product for you; it’s the Make An Infomercial lesson! In this project students will have the chance to learn the fundamentals of creating a video project from script and storyboard to an edited finished product. That’s right, for the low cost of student time and effort, they too can learn how to create their very own produced and edited video!
The software referenced in this lesson is a free browser-based video editing application called WeVideo. It is a powerful program, yet uses an intuitive, simple drag-and-drop approach. The provided resources do not include step-by-step instructions for using this software, but I did include links to introductory tutorials (not created by me). From my experience, students catch on to the program very quickly and don't need much help with navigating the software.
Included is a script and storyboard template as well as a four-page student handout. This document provides step-by-step instructions for students working in groups of 2-3 to follow to create their infomercial. Students are recommended to use their phone to take video and capture audio. Other than computers, no additional resources should be needed. A rubric is provided.
